Garrett County, Maryland

With year-round experiences and comfortable accommodations, Garrett County offers you everything you could want for your family reunion. Its central location in the Mid-Atlantic makes it an easy journey for families all over the East Coast.

For groups visiting in winter, check out Maryland’s only downhill ski resort, Wisp Resort. It offers outdoor activities for everyone in your family, including skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, ice skating, tubing and cross-country skiing. If you prefer to spend cold days inside, visit the Oakland B&O Museum or Transportation Museum for a look at our area’s history, culture and recreation.

Wisp Resort

Beginners and experts alike will love our winter sports! Head to Wisp Resort for downhill skiing, snowboarding, tubing, mountain coaster and more!

Summer boasts a slew of exciting recreational fun the whole family will enjoy. If you’re looking to get out on the water, head to Deep Creek Lake. This aquatic sport haven features jet skiing, speed boats and wakeboarding, as well as canoeing, kayaking, fishing and sail boating. For those in the family who want to kick back and relax, Deep Creek Lake State Park offers one-mile of shore line with a sandy beach area, perfect for lounging and taking in the lake views.

Nature lovers will enjoy a hike through the mountainous Swallow Falls State Park. It boasts some of the state’s most breathtaking landscapes and some impressive waterfalls, including Tolliver Falls and Muddy Creek Falls, Maryland’s highest waterfall. Thrill-seeking families should book a whitewater rafting expedition on the Youghiogheny or Adventure Sports Center
International. You can experience a tour that is perfect for beginners or avid rafters.

Deep Creek Lake

Splish, splash! Take time out to relax on the cool waters of Deep Creek Lake. Enjoy a quiet pontoon boat ride or zip across the water on a tube.

In the Fall, don’t miss one of the many festivals, including the Art & Wine Festival in September and Autumn Glory Festival in October. This time of year is perfect for visiting Garret County’s fantastic small towns. Take some time to browse the local farmers markets, or stop into one of the many boutique shops for a memento from your trip.

After a long day of adventure, it’s nice to come back to a cozy house to rest and recover. Garrett County has a large area of vacation rental homes that range in size from one bedroom to 10.
