Birmingham, Alabama: Your Destination for Magical Reunions

Destinations

Birmingham, AL

Reunions were practically invented in the South. You see, here in the South, we value a sense of knowing who we are and where we came from. We hold our personal histories and family connections in high regard.

Here in Birmingham, we have everything you’d want from a large city, packaged in a city of about a million people.

Another way of putting it is that Birmingham is big enough to have fun in, but small enough not to have lost that unique Southern trait of counting family and friends more important than populations statistics. With nightlife featuring a growing cocktail culture, live music venues from intimate to arenas, and something going on every weekend, you’d be hard put to find a more exciting place to bring the family together.

Best of all, Birmingham is easy to get to and surprisingly affordable. Located in the heart of the Southeast, travel to Birmingham is easy via Amtrak, major interstates, and the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth Airport. Once you get here, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to find that our hotel rates don’t hit your pockets too hard.

We’ve got the kids covered, too. No visit to Birmingham would be complete without learning a little something about our beginnings in the iron and steel industry and our pivotal role in America’s Civil Rights Movement. While you’re here, bring the cousins to the Birmingham Zoo, or out for a night at the ballpark to take in a Birmingham Barons baseball game. If the weather’s nice, check out Alabama Splash Adventure!

Food, Fun and food

Did we mention the food scene? Birmingham is one of the premier “foodie cities” in the country. And, it’s not all white tablecloth fare. After all, our roots in soul food run deep. It’s no wonder we’re known as the “Dinner Table of the South.”

Spend your days enjoying our robust shopping scene or rounds of world-class golf at one of our Robert Trent Jones golf courses. Don’t let the weather impair your game, either. Just head over to Top Golf and swing away. If your family is in a picnicking mood, we have a number of parks that are perfectly situated for a day in the sun. And, if being outdoors is your jam, check out our many hiking trails, many of which are walks through our iron and steel history.

When the day is done, it’s going to be time for dinner, and dinner is definitely something we do. With choices ranging from world-class barbecue, to authentic soul food, to James Beard Award-winning restaurants, our national reputation for dining is certainly well-earned. It’s no surprise to us when we hear of folks like Andrew Zimmern talking up our restaurant scene.
